This week, that story made me stop and ask myself: Could I actually win the 'Healthy Adult' look-alike contest based on the principles I teach?

My honest answer? Sometimes, I'd probably miss the podium.

The Challenge: Closing Your 'Say-Do Gap'

You expect your team to switch off, trust the process, and handle pressure calmly. But are your actions, like the late-night email replies, the rushed decisions - silently teaching them the opposite?

This is the Say-Do Gap, and it's the biggest threat to your team's resilience.

The solution isn't demanding more of them; it's demanding honesty from yourself.

This is the deliberate practice that turns a good leader into an authentic anchor for their team.

1. Define Your Best Self (The Standing Ovation)

• Imagine: You are on stage, and everyone you admire is applauding. List 3-5 specific traits that earned that applause (e.g., calm empathy, clear boundaries, magnetic humour).

• Ask: Have you stopped being this person lately in your work life?

2. Map the Gap and Plan the Repair

• Audit: Compare your 'Best Self' traits to your last week. Find one instance where you told your team to do 'X' but did the opposite of 'X' yourself.

• Plan: Write down exactly what you could have said or done differently (The Repair).

3. Future Focus: Model the Change

• Commit: Look ahead to the next 24 hours. Choose one specific moment to implement that repaired behaviour -and deliberately let your team see it or hear the reasoning behind it.

Picture it now: A team that works in a way that has rubbed off from you. A team where deadlines are met without weekend panic, where feedback is welcomed, and where every member respects their downtime.

This is the direct result of your own internal work. You are the silent hero whose self-correction gives everyone else permission to thrive.
